Hi, are you meaning cite my sources about my comments from 4 months ago? These are my memories from reading various interviews given by Siobhan many years ago. There was an interview with her in NME mag where she talked about “Strike It Rich”. Also one (I think) in Rolling Stone talking about the nuns. It’s going to be a bit of struggle to remember where they were printed. Maybe some web searching might give you some answers.

continued… The song ‘Strike it rich’ from ‘WOW’ was mentioned by Siobhan in interviews. She was digusted by that track and I’m not even sure Siobhan’s vocals are on it. Can you imagine how Siobhan felt, being bullied in her younger days then bullied by her two best mates. It seems to me Sara & Keren were more wiling to relax their principles while Siobhan felt that she could not and had to go for her own piece of mind. Then came Ms Detroit… oooh dear, bullied again.

Hi Emmyjo720… Being a teen through the 80′s I remember how Keren, Sara & Siobhan would talk about their split in interviews. Putting it in perspective Siobhan had quite an abused existence at her Catholic school by the nuns. Siobhan said this herself in interviews. Also Bananarama always seemed to pride themselves on going against the grain [anti-glamour, anti sexualizing themselves]. By the time ‘WOW’ arrived Siobhan was fighting a loosing battle wih Keren & Sara over direction.

I think it was piss take of what Pete Waterman tried to do to them…he first put Jacqui in the band, then when that failed, he tried to make them into an Abba type duet, which they are not….Siobhan of course saw it and got out, which was a mistake for her, maybe because she had more fun with Bananarama, but being married to Dave Stewart most likely didn’t help. Sarah and Keren had to stick together no matter what.

This is my 1st time seeing this video or this rendition. I absolutely love it and the male dancers do a good job with the groove. Excellent. It’s 2011 and the world is still groovin to Bananarama.

I am a massive ABBA fan and Bananarama sing ‘Waterloo’ really well.

  • euronick61 says:

why wasn’t this released as a single??

  • en7184 says:

It was actually Siobhan who encouraged the other girls to reunite for it.

    Sublime!
One of their best and funniest videos, and a favourite of mine!

At least you got to enjoy this in the UK. I just heard about this video recently. I loved Bananarama in the 1980s and 1990s. They are one of my favorites !

  • raspberrymint says:

Siobhan!!!! What a pleasure to see them together. It’s a shame they never found a common creative point of view after she left, instead she has been so professional and joined them for this gig and the London Astoria celebration. However, I don’t want Siobhan to stop her Shakespears Sister project, I’m a huge fan! and I have followed her ever since “Hormonally Yours”

  • GoblinsFriend says:

Eighties bands like Bananarama were so good at doing covers. This is just another example. Better than the original. And the video is hilarious. Wish Siobhan, Sarah and Keren would do some more work together.

  • bananaramamark says:

I only heard it once on the radio. It was released as a single in Canada but got no promotion at all. Seems after Siobhan left Polygram gave up on them, London too.
